During the early morning hours of Tuesday July 1, 2025, officers with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a home when shots were fired. Deputy Devin Mason, who graduated just this past March and joined the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed in the exchange.
South Carolina Highway Patrol TFC Dennis Ricks passed nearly four days after being struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop in Orangeburg County. TFC Ricks had served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol since January 2023 and was assigned to Troop 7, Post B, which covers Calhoun and Orangeburg Counties.
Thank you to our partner agencies.
We understand how important it is for communities to support those who give the ultimate sacrifice. When Officer Greg Alia was killed in 2015, the community rallied around our founder, Kassy, and their 6-month old son Sal.
We carry forward this immense kindness through our Tragedy Response Program. Anytime an officer is killed in the line-of-duty or critically injured in the line-of-duty in South Carolina, we offer to facilitate community giving to support the officer and their family and to honor their bravery. Since 2015, we have raised over $1.1 million. We do not keep any of the money raised. 100% is donated to the officers and their families.
We are honored to facilitate an online fundraiser through our platform for any of our active agencies in South Carolina. All donations are tax deductible. With the support of the agency and the officer’s family, we will develop the content and ensure all donors receive donation receipts. We will also work with the agency to support awareness of the fundraiser.
We find that timeliness is critical for ensuring the success of the campaign. We encourage all fundraisers to be set up no more than 72 hours after the critical incident.
If you would like to request support in setting up a tragedy response campaign or if you have questions regarding best practices for doing so, please contact our team at info@serveandconnect.org.
